AMMAN (9 December 2015) – In the presence of H.E. Dr. Nidal Katamin, Minister of Labor, the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) and Shams Ma’an Power Generation PSC signed a Memorandum of Understanding today to train 450 unemployed youth in Ma’an to facilitate their direct employment in a renewable energy project.
The signatories will design and implement a customized training program for youth on energy efficiency at the VTC Model Skill Center of Excellence (MSCoE) for Renewable Energy in Ma’an complying with Jordan Energy Efficiency Strategy.
H.E. Dr. Nidal Katamin, Minister of Labor, focused in her remarks on the importance of vocational education and praised the role of the Vocational Training Corporation in preparing the Jordanian workforce with the skills needed by the market.
“The VTC Model Skill Center of Excellence for Renewable Energy in Ma’an has well equipped workshops to train youth according to industry needs for employment in Ma’an Development Area. The 450 youth will join 56 students currently enrolled in a one-year training program to leverage their skills based on international best practices,” noted H.E. Majid Habashneh, Director General of Vocational Training Corporation.
To support this initiative, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through Jordan Workforce Development Project, will hire two technical trainers to provide theoretical and practical training on photovoltaic installation (PV) for youth trainees.
“As part of its social responsibility, Shams Ma’an considers hiring labor from the local community in Ma’an a priority. The company values the partnership with the VTC and the USAID Jordan Workforce Development Project. For eighteen weeks the trainees will learn skills required for PV panels installation, thus, leading to their employment at the company and / or its sub-contractors and eventually, in any future projects in renewable energy,” added Karim Kawar, Board of Directors’ Chairman of Shams Ma’an.
